  • NORFOLK SCHOOLS LEADERSHIP PATHWAY

    Published 17/01/24

YR5-6 ACTIVE LEADERS - LEADING CHANGE

The Norfolk Schools Leadership Pathway is passionate about providing opportunities for as many young people as possible to grow their leadership skills, gain experience in sports leaderships and develop essential life skills such as communication, organisation, and teamwork.

This year we launched the new Norfolk School Leadership Pathway- Leading a legacy which provides schools with a leadership journey from KS1- KS4 with the outcome of trying to improve personal development for young people which prepares them for life.

This week we launched the Active Leaders training days, and they were a huge hit. The training days were attended by 24 different schools and approximately 250 year 5-6 pupils. The pupils we delivered to were enthusiastic and have shown some great leadership qualities and I know that the younger pupils they will be leading back at their school during breaks, lunchtimes and extra-curricular sessions will be having a great time.

Each of the training days consisted of 4 different workshops- practical leadership skills, playground games, running intra-school events and health and wellbeing. The pupils have come up with lots of different ideas/ activities and will be using their planning booklets to plan their sessions. They will also have access to the new playground activity cards we have written.

Staff Feedback- What impact has taking part in this event had on your pupils?

“Informative, interesting, engaging and a chance to be taken out of their comfort zone. They are now able to lead activities more confidently and independently for pupils of all ages and skill levels”.

“Children have learned a wide range of skills which will help them in everyday life. It has improved their social skills, confidence and provided them with the skills they need to lead”.

“It was a valuable and inclusive experience that we can recreate within our school environment”.

Pupil Feedback- What did you learn at the event and what was your highlight of the day?

“Meeting people from other schools- learning how to lead”.

“I learnt about how to communicate, work as a team, organisation, safety, SMILE and inclusivity”.

“Making new friends, creative thinking being safe and respectful”.

We look forward to continuing to work with these young leaders and cannot wait to see all the good work they are doing back in their school. This is the start of their leadership journey and hopefully we will see them again as they progress through the Norfolk Schools Leadership pathway.
